Neighborhood Spotlight: Collegeville

Collegeville is a Philadelphia suburb in Montgomery County, incorporated in 1896. It sits along Perkiomen Creek and is part of land William Penn bought in 1684. Trains started coming to the area in 1868. Some wanted to name the station after the Perkiomen Bridge, but others wanted to name it after the Freeland Public School and Seminary. The rail company chose neither and named it Collegeville, which is also home to Ursinus College.
